Accessibility

This page describes what Cosmic Memory supports today and, just as importantly, what it does not. We would rather be accurate about the gaps than claim a standard we have not met.

Keyboard and focus

Buttons, links and menu controls are standard interactive elements, so Tab moves between them and Enter or Space activates them. Focus is visible as a ring on the element that has it. Content pages use real headings, lists and landmarks, so screen-reader and keyboard navigation through the written material works normally.

The game board itself is currently pointer-first. Cards respond to clicks and taps, and keyboard-only play of a board is one of the known gaps listed below.

Colour and contrast

The interface uses a dark theme with light text, chosen for contrast rather than fashion. Long-form content sits on a plain background with no animation behind it, so paragraphs stay legible.

Card symbols are distinguished by shape as well as colour, so matching never depends on telling two colours apart. The timer bar does change colour as time runs low, but the bar also visibly shrinks and the exact seconds remaining are shown as text, so the colour is reinforcement rather than the only signal.

Motion

Cards flip with a short animation, matches trigger a brief celebration, and the home screen has an animated starfield. Content pages deliberately avoid animation behind text.

A full reduced-motion mode that honours your operating system preference is not yet implemented. If motion is a problem for you, this is the most useful thing you could tell us about.

Sound and haptics

A single mute control silences both the background music and the sound effects. It is available in the in-game header and in the Settings panel, and the setting is remembered. No part of the game requires sound to play — every audio cue has a visual equivalent.

On devices that support it, matches and mismatches produce a short vibration, which is useful when playing muted.

Text and zoom

Layouts are responsive and text uses relative sizing, so browser zoom and larger system font sizes work without content being cut off. Boards scale to the width of the screen so cards stay large enough to tap on a phone.

Known limitations

  • The game board cannot currently be played with the keyboard alone.
  • There is no reduced-motion setting tied to your system preference.
  • Screen-reader announcements for board state changes are limited.
  • Timed levels cannot have their time limit extended as an accessibility option, though boosts and the reclaim feature both add time.
  • There is no high-contrast or dyslexia-friendly font option.
  • We have not carried out a formal WCAG audit and do not claim conformance.

Reporting a problem

Accessibility reports are treated as bug reports, not feature requests. If something prevents you from playing, please get in touch and include your device, browser, any assistive technology you use, and what you were trying to do.
